Workouts That Work
Instead of a NYE Resolution, Do This!
New Years, New Workouts
We are finally at the end of 2024. Which means many people will be starting new workouts at the turn of the year. Unfortunately, only about 1% of people stick to their New Years Resolutions until the end of the year, and only 6% of that already 1% actually change their lives long term.
Below I have a list of different types of workouts outside of running and lifting that you could start in 2025. Not as a resolution, but instead a way to identify yourself as someone who works out. And thats because that is truly the best way to build a good consistent habit.
If you need more information on building habits that stick, check out one of my previous posts on building habits.
Yoga
True happiness can only be found in the present moment of a single breath without anxious dependence of the future, or depression dependence of the past. Yoga is a fantastic practice of mindfulness to be able to teach yourself to live mainly in the present to improve your mental health and enjoyment of happiness. While also improving your physical health in flexibility, strength and balance allowing for strong healthy muscles. Yoga is a great place to start for a beginner on their fitness journey. It is also a great addition for someone who is already physically active and wants to build a more rounded structure of physical activity.

Pilates
The NUMBER 1 reported muscular or skeletal pain in the United States every year is low back pain. At some point in your life, you have most likely had low back pain. The treatment of low back pain is often core strengthening and endurance. Core strengthening is not limited to your ab muscles, but also your back muscles, your hips, and your glutes as well. And this is exactly the muscles that are worked in pilates. With a focus on core strengthening and stability, pilates also helps improve flexibility, enhance your posture and alignment, prevent injuries, and is a low-impact exercise meaning less stress on your joints.

HIIT Workout
Some people just don’t have the time availability that everyone else has to workout. HIIT workouts are best for this population. HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) is a time-efficient workout that alternates between short burst of intense exercise and active recovery or rest periods. These workouts can be for beginners and advanced athletes. They can be done at home, at the gym, or in a group class. They can also be performed just using bodyweight, using cardio equipment like a treadmill, or dumbells and barbells. This variety can help you tailor exercises you actually enjoy and will want to do in the short amount of available time you have.

Cycle
If you’ve ever taken a SoulCycle or CycleBar class, it is an insanely electric class. With the combination of high-intensity cardio with strength training. This is an energetic community with a motivating environment and is one of the reasons they joke that it is a cult. With music-driven rides, dimmed lights, and high energy it feels more like a party than a workout which is why a lot of people like these classes. Not only that, cycling is low impact on your joints which preserves you from the number one musculoskeletal disease in the country, Osteoarthritis. Benefits of cycling will include improved heart health, burning calories quickly, strengthening of core muscles, and boosts mental health.
